For some…this is a very hard day while others a joyous one. At 50, I know what it’s like feeling Christmas both ways. For years, (most of my adult life) on this day, I suffered in my heart silently for many reasons that spanned from emotional abuse to a lack of love. But, then Jesus showed me His love and poured His love in my heart through several visitations. Jesus personally taught me how to fight feelings of sadness that cause you to feel down. I’m so grateful for Him, because my life has never been the same. Real talk…the joy that you can have truly begins with you. Jesus can’t make you want it…nor have it. You have to want it. You have to develop the mentality of a soldier in order to overcome. But, here’s the issue…most don’t want to hear what they have to do and that’s why they don’t overcome adversities and struggle with them. The key is…not trying to overcome on your own: you can’t do it without Jesus.
Overcoming begins with your decision to overcome and it continues with Jesus. The real fight deals with coming against principalities, rulers of darkness, powers, and spiritual wickedness in high places we can’t fight alone. But, we can through Jesus who strengthens us to do all things through Him. This is real. I live it and am able to overcome many things, because of Jesus, not by any measure of my own strength other than my decision to do so and my love and might to remain true to Him in heart. A solider fights. If you want to overcome sadness, loneliness, depression and anger that you’re suffering from…you have to fight like a soldier knowing where your strength to override and break feelings that become strongholds come from and receive it in your heart, believing you really are more than a conqueror through Jesus. See, Jesus taught me to believe this…that I am a conqueror, not by my might, but by His. There’s nothing adequate enough about me, you or anyone else that makes us able to overcome, but there is Jesus. And, so I am and I do…conquer, because of Him. I live, move and have my being in Jesus and until we understand this, we’ll always struggle inside, even with a smile on our faces.
In love…I submit to you this thought…sadness isn’t of God, but peace is…love is…joy is. You might be sad by something you were chastened by God for disobedience, but God isn’t going to drop the feeling of sadness in your heart. So, if sadness isn’t coming from God, because of being disobedient…then from who, what or where? Beloveds, any soldier, leader, “history maker” or “trail blazer” knows that to overcome the first move begins in the heart…and that its a critical one because, it drives us to remain with the decision to overcome whatever it is we’re facing and not waiver. This is, Beloveds, the crucial part many fail to see, because to accomplish whatever it is we trying to achieve we must “work for it,” “get it,” “ take it,” “receive it,” “study for it,” “pass tests,” “become it,” etc….you get my point.
But, more specifically in the area of overcoming pain (although we need Jesus for everything), we must look to Jesus. Unlike the moment when Peter took his eyes off Jesus standing on water in front of Him and sank, we must never take our eyes off Jesus. You must stand in front of Jesus with whatever problem you face and never take your eyes off of Him or else you will sink…but, if you don’t you will overcome. Jesus will strengthen you, replenish your heart, heal your heart and pour into it. Jesus will direct your way in the matter at hand and give you peace of mind. He will become your JOY that helps you overcome all darkness trying to bring you down and you won’t just say it in church, on the phone or in conversations over dinner with “loved ones”…you’ll say it, because you really mean it, being filled with it in your heart. Jesus really will be your JOY relieving you from sorrow.
